CDC Links Mask Recommendations to COVID-19 Community Levels

image of covid virus & girl wearing maskThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its mask wearing recommendations, linking the recommendations to COVID-19 Community Levels.  In low/green level communities, “wear a mask based on your personal preference, informed by your personal level of risk.”  In medium/yellow level communities, talk to a healthcare provider about precautions “if you are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness,” and wear a mask when indoors with someone at high risk for severe illness.  In high/orange level communities, wear a mask “indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status or individual risk.”  In any level community, if immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness, CDC recommends wearing a mask or respirator that provides greater protection.  The CDC COVID-19 by County page includes an easy-to-use state/county finding tool for determining one’s COVID-19 Community Level.  The CDC Masks page includes information on types of masks and respirators and free N95 Respirator Manufacturers.
