2015-2020 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan

Health IT LogoThe US DHHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology recently released an updated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2015-2020.  The Plan was developed in collaboration with over 35 federal agencies, and “sets a blueprint for the federal partners to implement strategies that will support the nation’s continued development of a responsive and secure health IT and information use infrastructure.”  Over the last four years, federal Health IT efforts have concentrated on assisting hospitals and primary-care doctors to adopt electronic health records (EHRs), and providing Meaningful Use EHR Incentive Programs.  The 2015-2020 Strategic Plan focuses on helping non-primary care doctors to adopt EHRs, as well as helping individuals to access their own health records and encouraging federal agencies (eg, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense) to exchange health data.  For additional information, see the Health IT Strategic Planning page.
