New Database: Knowledge Mosaic – SEC Filings, Law Firm Memos

Knowledge Mosaic aims to “take the torrent of information associated with heavily regulated industries—including securities, communications, finance, commerce, and trade—and channels it” to make it more accessible and comprehensible.  Our staff was impressed by how easy the database is to use.

Knowledge Mosaic contains:

  • Disclosure – Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, with many advanced searching capabilities over the free SEC Edgar database.   Full text searching back to 1994 with Boolean operators, including proximity operators.  Ability to search for a particular exhibit and to search for companies with particular financial ratios.   Special search templates for risk factors, registrations, SEC investigations, Form D (exempt offering) filers, insiders, investment advisers,  SEC comment letters and law firm relationships (identifies firms who represented clients for SEC filings).
  • Law Firm Memos (1983-current) – Articles written by U.S. and international firms for their clients.
  • Federal Fundamentals – Current securities laws and regulations, U.S. Code, CFR, bills in the current Congress, Federal Register dating back to 1998
  • Agency Materials – Search rules, agency guidance and other agency documents, some dating back to 1950.
  • Analytics – Search SEC Enforcement and FINRA adjudication records by defendant(name or position), violation, and penalty (type or amount).
  • Keeping Current – News from the business sectors, agencies, Congress and the courts.

Knowledge Mosaic is available campus wide, including the law library and the Michael Schwartz library, and is available to CSU students, faculty and staff remotely via proxied links in this blog or on the law library webpage.
