CaseMap Organizes Facts, Issues, Documents & Research

Imagine a case with lots of actors, facts and legal issues. How can you keep them all straight and easily draw relationships between these case components? LexisNexis CaseMap allows one to create tables of the actors, documents, evidence, pleadings and legal authorities, link them and create reports. For example, you can quickly produce a list of all undisputed facts, linked to case issues, to simplify preparation of a Motion for Summary Judgment.

You can also get a jumpstart on Requests for Admission, Exhibit Lists, Witness Lists, Pretrial Statements and questions for witnesses at deposition or trial. CaseMap works with TimeMap(creates time lines) and TextMap (transcript database and summary tool).

Students, faculty and staff can download CaseMap for free. Students can use CaseMap in place of traditional research logs. see Thomson, David,CaseMap as a Tool for the Research Log Function: Finally, a Technology that Can Help us Teach Better(June 26, 2007). U Denver Legal Studies Research Paper No. 07-35. Available at SSRN: http://ssrn.com/abstract=996739.

After downloading the software, click on help and go to the CaseMap101 tutorial to get started. It is helpful to take a look at the sample case provided under Help>Example Case>Hawkins v. Anstar. Telephonic support and webinars are available for training. I have been playing with the software and would be glad to help anyone get started.

Sue, Very interesting… have any students started using CaseMap yet? Can you give examples? This is a technology that we are rolling out in conjunction with Summation and Interwoven. I’m glad to see that you are encouraging your students to use this. I agree with David that this can be a terrific tool for legal reseach programs. Kudos… Al
