We previously blogged about ways to put legal authorities in proper citation format as you research. See Proper Citation Format for Jurisdiction with CiteGenie This post also mentions Zotero, Endnote and Legal Citation. CiteIt! is a similar product, but does not support the most current Bluebook edition. These products involve creating a database of authorities which can be inserted into a document in proper citation format.

What if you have a completed law review article or brief and want to check the citation for Bluebook format? What software enables one to upload a document and check the citations?

While older editions Shepard’s BriefSuite will check an uploaded document for proper Bluebook form, the current edition available for download does not include the Shepard’s Style Check which checks for bluebook form. See LexisNexis Support Center. Lexis CaseMap does not check cites in a document for Bluebook format. It appears that Lexis had an older product called CiteRite for Bluebooking. Westcheck does not have the capability to check for Bluebook format either.

Cit-R-Us will check bluebook citation format as you type. It will work on an existing document by highlighting each citation and pressing F2. Academic licenses are available for $50.00. CitRus currently supports only practitioner (brief) format, not law review format. see FAQs.
