Fall 2013 Research Certificate Seminars

computer&paperThe Law Library is pleased to continue its Research Certificate Seminars this Fall 2013 Semester for C|M|LAW students.
Each of the Seminars will take place 4:50pm-5:50pm in Room A059 in the Law Library.
To register for a Seminar, students should contact Laura Ray, Instructional Services Librarian, 216-687-6880, l.ray@csuohio.edu.
  Attendance for each Seminar is limited to 20 students, so try to register as soon as possible.
You earn 25 points for attending a Seminar.  When you earn 100 Seminar points, you are awarded a Law Library Research Certificate.

Tuesday, August 27th –  Scholarly Writing

Writing a research paper this semester?  We’ll examine resources and strategies for topic selection, initial research and preemption checks, in-depth research, and interdisciplinary research, as well as discuss getting copy of materials, basic writing guidelines, and footnote formats.

Thursday, September 12th –  iPad Apps

Get the most out of your iPad!  We’ll review apps particularly useful for law students, clerks, and lawyers, as well as basic productivity apps.  Registrants are encouraged to suggest particular apps and iPad functions they would also like to be discussed in this Seminar.

Tuesday, September 24th –  Bluebooking

This Seminar will help take the mystery out of Bluebooking as we work through numerous citation examples and questions.  Case, statute, and secondary source citations will be covered.

Tuesday, October 8th –  Administrative Law Research

We’ll show you how to find regulations, administrative decisions, and agency guidance, as well as how to track pending regulations.  Hands-on exercises will be included, so bring your laptop or iPad and Bloomberg, Lexis, Westlaw passwords.

Tuesday, October 22nd –  WestlawNext Refresher
Thursday, October 24th –  Bloomberg Refresher
Tuesday, October 29th –  Lexis Advance Refresher

For each of the WestlawNext, Bloomberg, and Lexis Advance Refreshers, registrants are encouraged to suggest particular features of the database system they would like to be discussed in the Seminar.
