Mental Health and Wellbeing Resources for Law Students

In 2014, the American Bar Association administered a Survey of Law Student Well-Being. Fifteen law schools across the nation participated in the study, which was designed to examine mental health issues among law students. As a result, the study found that 17% of law students screened positive for depression, 23% screened positive for moderate anxiety, and 14% screened positive for severe anxiety.

The good news is that if you are struggling with mental health or wellbeing, there are a great deal of resources available to help you! Here are just a few:

  1. The Library has created a collection of Mental Health and Wellness books (in print and e-book) designed to increase well-being and happiness. You can find the print collection in the Ohio Room, or Scholar, the library catalog.
  2. The Library has also created a Mental Health and Well-Being Research Guide, where, in addition to some of the books in the mental health and well-being collection, you can find  meditation videos, law school and legal profession videos, podcasts and meditation videos.
  3. Finally, every year the American Bar Association hosts a “Law Student Mental Health Day” on October 10th. As part of the programming this year, the ABA Law Student Division reached out to professors, lawyers, and law-focused mental health professionals to share a word of advice to law students.
