Bluebook for Citing Ebooks

Bluebook, 21st editionBluebook rule 15.9(c) covers citing to ebooks. Based on this rule, print books are authoritative and you should only cite to an ebook version if this is the only way a source is available. Here is an example (of a fictitious ebook title), done in Bluebook citation style:

Rosalie Meyers, The Reasoning Behind the Reasonable Man Standard 283 (2018) (ebook).

If an ebook uses location numbers instead of page numbers, you indicate that with “loc.” followed by the location numeral(s).
