Proposition 8 Ruled Unconstitutional

A 3-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit has denied a motion to vacate a lower court judgment that California Proposition 8 violated the 14th Amendment.  [Perry v. Brown]  The ruling stated “Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.”  The ruling will not be in effect until after the deadline to appeal to a larger panel of the 9th Circuit.
