Pending Ohio Supreme Court cases are often good inspiration for a paper topic, particularly for Ohio centered classes such as Ohio Local Government Law. As a practicing attorney, it is useful to know what issues the Ohio Supreme Court will be deciding, for example, if you have the same issue on appeal at the district court level.
The Ohio Supreme Court’s new search tool Issues Accepted for Review now makes it easy to find the issues which the court will address in the near future. This site includes all accepted jurisdictional appeals, accepted certified conflict cases, and accepted certified question of state law cases are viewable while open and for 180 days after they are closed. When you find a case of interest, track it using the Case Activity Notification.
Note that if a case was just accepted for review, it will take a while for the Ohio Supreme Court to reach a decision. The parties must brief the case, an oral argument takes place, and after oral argument it takes about six months for the court to decide (a very rough estimate – and it varies from case to case).
