New Web Tools: Print a Webpage Without Ads, Automatic Web Site Summarizers

These web tools were new to me:

  • CleanPrint – install it on your browser using these instructions and print out webpages without banners, ads and navigation bars (Thanks to Wisblawg).
  • Web site summarizers – these automatically summarize or reduce the amount of words on a web page.  (Thanks to 3 Geeks and a Law Blog).  These include FreeSummarizer, GistWeb and GreatSummary.  The later two work by copying and pasting text into a box to summarize that text.   Remember that it is a machine doing the summarizing, not a person, so they may not be reliable for some uses, such as class readings.

Some oldy but goody free web tools include:

  • WatchThatPage – get emails whenever a website you are following adds something new.
  • Jureeka – installs a find by citation box to find case law on the web and takes case citations on web pages and links to the full text of the case on the web, where available.
  • Zotero – organize research, create bibliographies, save screen shots of web pages with bibliographic information.
