State of Ohio Sues Norfolk Southern Over East Palestine Train Disaster

The State of Ohio has sued Norfolk Southern over the Feb. 3 derailment of a freight train that caused environmental damage around the town of East Palestine.

Ohio’s suit (case number 4:23-CV-00517) filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (complaint) said the derailment resulted in the release of over one million gallons of hazardous materials and other harmful pollutants into Ohio’s air, streams, rivers, soil, and groundwater “killing tens of thousands of fish and other animals, and recklessly endangering the health of Ohioans throughout the region.”
