1970s Underground Student Newspaper ‘Trade School News’

The irreverent C|M|LAW student publication Trade School News was founded in 1971 by law student Terry L. Saron ’73. It was published sporadically for three years.

Written at the top of the first issue is The Purpose of T.S. News: 1) To provide to all students the opportunity to express themselves on any given topic without having to submit an article which will be stale prior to publication; 2) To provide a forum to disseminate all ideas concerning this Law School with the emphasis on substance over form; 3) This paper is dedicated to the proposition that to be human is not at odds with being a professional.

Writers for TSN graded the faculty, hounded their meetings, and spoofed the curriculum (e.g. they proposed a course in Animal Parapsychology). Their stated motto was “Just another cog in the great legal wheel.”

PDFs of all issues of Trade School News are available in CSU’s institutional repository Engaged Scholarship.
