Things to Do in Cleveland Over Break

Be sure to relax and have some fun over break. Besides seeing family and friends, here are a few things to do in Cleveland:

  1. See a play at Playhouse Square. A Christmas Carol and A Christmas Story are two notable offerings this holiday season.
  2. Ice Skating Rink at Public Square; daily through February 29. Get fresh air and exercise with a skate at the rink at Public Square–at night the square is lit up for the holiday season.
  3. Glow at the Cleveland Botanical Garden; now-through January 5. This year’s indoor and outdoor winter wonderland features gingerbread houses, tree displays, model trains, kid activities, an outdoor Garden Express train, a two-story tree, light displays, a Treetop Shop and Sweet Shop for young browsers, decorate-your-own-gingerbread, and more.
  4. Cleveland State Men’s Basketball, January 4 at 3pm v. Youngstown; Women’s Basketball (currently 9-1!), December 20 v. Erie 7pm; December 28 v. UIC 2pm; December 30 v. IUPUI 7pm–all at Wolstein Centr.
  5. A Christmas Story House; open daily. The house used in the popular holiday classic A Christmas Story has been restored to its original 1983 movie appearance. The house takes visitors on a nostalgic journey to the sights and scenes where Ralphie Parker dreams of nothing but receiving a genuine Red Ryder 200-shot Carbine Action Air Rifle for Christmas. In addition to the Christmas Story House, visitors can explore the museum where items from the movie are on display, more than 100 behind-the-scenes photos are featured and movie-related memorabilia can be purchased.
  6. Cleveland Monsters Hockey v. Charlotte; 12/28 7pm and 12/30 12pm, Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
  7. Cleveland Museum of Art Michelangelo: Mind of the Master exhibit; through January 5.
  8. Tobogganing at the Cleveland Metroparks; daily.
  9. The Black Nativity at Karamu House, 2355 East 89th Street. An annual Cleveland tradition, The Black Nativity, written by hometown literary master Langston Hughes, is a retelling of the Gospel according to St. Luke, set to the music and dance of the Black church.
  10. Wild Winter Lights at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; 5:30pm-9:30pm on weekends through Sunday, January 5.
