FREE app keeps you safe on campus!
Imagine this scenario: You’re witnessing a crime in progress, or worse, you are a victim of a crime. You call 911 from your smart phone. Your hear the person on the other end say, “one moment, I’ll transfer you”. If that is not something you want to hear then you need to download the FREE Viking Shield app as soon as possible. With Viking Shield, your calls will go directly to the C.S.U. police, and there’s no need to transfer you from the 911 dispatcher to C.S.U. police.
You don’t even need to talk with anybody either, if you so choose. With the Viking Shield you can send pictures and videos, or text suspicious activity, and the police will be dispatched to your geographic location once you press the Viking Shield icon. You can even set a safety check with Viking Shield when you happen to be walking alone. Simply select an end time on your app. If you don’t enter a PIN before that time expires, your emergency contacts are sent a text message.
C.S.U. is the first campus in the nation to integrate this type of technology into their existing student safety technologies! The technology called iReport, utilizes what’s called a “geo-fence”, which was developed locally, in Beachwood, Ohio. It’s available to both iPhone and Android users. ALL INFORMATION REMAINS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL, and is only given out in an emergency situation.
For more information, check out the Viking Shield FAQ located on the C.S.U. police website. You can also watch a video of how Viking Shield works from Fox 8 news in Cleveland, Ohio, and there’s also an interesting article written about the app on Cleveland.com.
C.S.U. was recently recognized as one of the safest universities in Ohio, and we at the Law School can do our part by downloading this free app.
