Using Research Issues Today’s Students Can Relate To

The teachers among us may want to look at Professor Karin Mika’s latest article, Using Contemporary Issues in the Classroom to Further Student Engagement, The Learning Curve, Summer 2013,  18.    Professor Mika suggests  choosing fact patterns which today’s students – the Millennial generation – can relate to.   Professor Mika’s assignments have dealt with (1) copyright infringement in videos, music videos, and music recording (especially sampling); and (2) employer’s data mining and monitoring of an employee’s online activities.   The current law does not adequately address these new situations.  These issues not only challenge and engage students, but are likely to be big issues when students actually enter into the practice of law.

Take a look at Professor Mika’s article  for some great assignment ideas.
