Bloomberg Law for Cases, Dockets, Transactional Resources & More

Bloomberg Law is the newest major legal information provider, completing the triad of the big three law databases. Even if you’re already comfortable using Lexis or Westlaw, you’ll want to consider learning this new system. Bonus is, Bloomberg Law’s intuitive interface makes this pretty easy to do.

What will you get for your efforts?

Bloomberg combines legal content with business and news sources while offering you specialized searching for dockets, contract and M&A clauses, law firm memos, EDGAR filings and more.

On the traditional legal side, Bloomberg Law’s case law content connects you with BCite, their online citator, similar to what you’d find in KeyCite and Shepard’s. Docket searching couldn’t be easier on Bloomberg – it is the equivalent of searching in PACER. Secondary sources are covered with analysis and treatises on many areas of law.

Researchers and practitioners interested in specific legal fields can access any of the ten Practice Centers, which will direct you to more narrowly focused legal content and news sources. Practice centers cover antitrust, health, tax, IP, labor and employment, and more.

Bloomberg Law’s Transactional Resources can assist you with an assignment or project that involves document production. For example, in the documents database, clauses database or forms collection you can find samples of documents and clauses actually used in practice from major law firms. You might also find the drafting checklists and guidelines helpful for working through deals and transactional assignments.

On the business and news side, you can find legal news, as well as company and people profiles. Searching EDGAR SEC filings is straightforward using Bloomberg Law’s interface.

You’ll have opportunities to learn more about Bloomberg Law through Legal Research & Writing, upper level drafting classes, library research sessions, and vendor demonstrations. Tutorials are also available.
