It’s Official: No More Bound Volumes for Ohio Appellate & Misc.

In April, we blogged that the Ohio Supreme Court planned to discontinue print volumes of Ohio Appellate and Miscellaneous reporters.  After a public comment period, the Ohio Supreme court announced today that the appellate and miscellaneous print volumes indeed would be cancelled effective July 1, 2012.  These opinions are readily available from the Ohio Supreme Court’s website.

The amended Rules for Reporting Opinions designates the Supreme Court website as the Ohio Official Reports for opinions of the courts of appeals and the Court of Claims as of July 1, 2012.   Rep. Op. R. 3.2.  Ohio State 3d bound volumes, containing the Ohio Supreme Court decision will continue.  The amended rules state that all Court of Appeals opinions published  after May 1, 2002 may be cited and weighted as deemed appropriate by the court, regardless of  the form in which the opinion is published.

The public comment period resulted in the addition of Rep.Op.R. 4.3 “Availability of Posted Opinions,” which reads: “All opinions posted to the Supreme Court website prior to July 1, 2012 and all opinions posted to the Supreme Court website on or after July 1, 2012 pursuant to Rep.Op.R. 2.1 and 3.2 shall be permanently available to the public without charge.” see  Rules for Reporting Opinions
