State Crime Lab DNA Tests Tainted in 1% of Cases

WBNS-TV (Channel 10) aired the results of  a six month investigation finding

dozens of cases in which DNA evidence was contaminated while in the lab’s possession – sometimes, it appears, with DNA from technicians who handled the samples

According to bureau documents obtained by WBNS, however, contamination has caused “inconclusive” results and, on at least one occasion, hurt a case “irreparably.”

The State Crime lab is conducting an internal investigation to remedy the problem.
