Ohio’s Historical Codes

We’re all familiar with today’s Ohio Revised Code, either as Baldwin’s Ohio Revised Code Annotated, or Page’s Ohio Revised Code Annotated. But if you stumble across historical references such as Throckmorton, Swan, Chase, Curwen, or Sayler, you might need further research help. Our Ohio Primary Law Legal Research Guide has information to get you started. HeinOnline [linked off our database list] is also a great place to find a comprehensive collection of Ohio laws, dating back to the time of the Northwest Territories. On Hein, choose the State Statutes: A Historical Archive library, then browse to Ohio. Finally, if you’re in need of a real in-depth discussion of Ohio’s historical statutory publications, have a look at this older law review article that’s still the final say on the topic: Ervin H. Pollack & Charles F. O’Brien, The History of Legislative Publications in Ohio, 13 Ohio St. L.J. 307 (1952).
