Research Ohio’s Adopted Uniform Acts Using ULA
According to the Uniform Law Commission, a uniform act is “one that seeks to establish the same law on a subject among the various jurisdictions.” Uniform acts have been established on a number of different topics. While the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) may be the most well-know uniform act, there are many others covering business, finance, estates & probate, family law, criminal & civil law, and more.
If you’re researching Ohio’s involvement with a uniform act, a great source to use is Uniform Laws Annotated (ULA), available on Westlaw. Using the UCC as an example, you can easily locate this law when you navigate to ULA. Say you are curious as to whether Ohio has adopted UCC Art. 2 on Sales. You’ll see that there are two versions of this article – one revised in 2022 and one prior to 2022.
Clicking into UCC Art. 2 (2022) you see a link for “Refs & Annos” at the top – this leads you to a table showing jurisdictions that have adopted this article, with citations to corresponding state laws. You can readily see that although Ohio adopted the earlier version of UCC Art. 2 in 1962 and codified this at ORC 1302.01 to 1302.98, the state has yet to adopt the 2022 version of Art. 2.
You can find plenty of additional information on uniform acts on the Uniform Law Commission website, but finding the adoption status of an individual state is not particularly easy on the site. With ULA, this is straightforward.
