51 Ohio Courts Receive $10.2 Million in Grants to Reduce Backlog

Earlier this year, Governor Mike DeWine launched the Ohio Court Backlog Reduction Program to help courts process court cases more efficiently. The Program is funded by the $250 million Ohio received via the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to remedy issues amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Municipal and county courts, courts of common pleas and appellate courts could apply for grant money to implement one or two year programs to help reduce the backlog of court cases. Examples of the programs that received funding from the grant were pretrial programs, kiosk check-in systems, technology to simplify bench warrant processing, updates to case management systems and programs to help maintain adequate staffing levels.
