Bloomberg BNA Databases for Current Awareness

Looking for a paper topic? Taking a class on tax, employment, or other specialized legal topic? C|M|LAW Library subscribes to a Bloomberg BNA package that includes numerous databases covering a broad range of legal topics and practice areas. These databases provide access to a comprehensive selection of primary and secondary sources of law, and current awareness services. In our Research Databases guide, BNA’s current awareness titles are listed on the left-hand side of the page, while the practice centers are listed on the right.

The current awareness titles can be useful when you are exploring topics for your note or seminar papers. These databases will provide you with information on emerging issues in the specified area of the law. For example, if you are interested in workplace discrimination issues, Daily Labor Report, and Employment Discrimination Report would be the most relevant. As with all of BNA’s current awareness services, after you log in with your Bloomberg BNA credentials, you may sign up for email alerts.

The practice centers include cases, secondary sources, and practice tools. For example, the Tax and Accounting Center offers Fast Answers for federal tax, written in brief and clear language.  Fast Answers can be searched by keyword, or you can look at a list of topics and subtopics, and the Frequently Asked Questions for each subtopic.
