Don’t Forget to Check the Regs
Are you in the midst of your first assignment at your summer job or internship? Don’t forget to check for administrative law and regulations that may apply to your legal issue. The Ohio Administrative Code contains the regulations promulgated by Ohio’s administrative agencies. The Administrative Code is available for free on Lawriter, or you can find annotated versions on Lexis and Westlaw. Public Notice of rule-making, proposed regulations, and new regulations can be found on the Register of Ohio website.
Additionally, guidance documents such as advisory letters, opinion statements, manuals and guidelines, can help illuminate your topic. These documents are written by agency officials to explain how the agency interprets a law or to discuss potential policy changes, and can often be found on agency websites. While guidance documents are generally not binding on a court, they can still prove useful to your research and understanding of an issue or regulation.
