In a recent post on Legal Writing Prof Blog, Mark E. Wojcik tells of a law student who laments the ease of electronic research for finding cases, making legal research like “looking for a needle in a needle stack.” The solution to this pointed problem? Secondary sources, of course. A good treatise, practice handbook, or other secondary source can lead you directly to the most relevant cases, often much quicker than you can find them yourself by poking around in a case law database. Not sure where to go to find the right secondary source? Try our research guide Major Legal Treatises & Services by Subject, which suggests secondary sources for over 45 legal topics.
