Net Gens as 1Ls

Girlcellphone

After the Millennials come the Net Gens, those individuals born at the earliest in the mid-1990s. By fall 2015, the oldest Net Gens will be starting law school. What unique opportunities and challenges will this cohort face as 1Ls? Mary Ann Becker, a clinical professor at Loyola University Chicago College of Law, explores this question in her forthcoming article, Understanding the Tethered Generation: Net Gens Come to Law School.

She considers issues such as:

  • the impact of the testing culture of No Child Left Behind on critical thinking and writing skills
  • the flexible understanding of what constitutes cheating
  • the concept of education as a consumer commodity
  • the influence of horizontal peer groups formed through social media
