Ravel: Graphically Shows Relationships Between Cases
Ravel is a new legal research search engine. It offers all U.S. Supreme Court and Federal Circuit decisions from 1925 for free. For a fee, you can get federal district court and some state decisions. They are continuing to expand their coverage.
Ravel search results provide visuals, where each case is represented by a circle. The circles are sized by the quality and frequency by which the case is sited by other cases in your results. If the circle is outlined in green, the case was cited in the last 10 years. You can visually sort the results by jurisdiction, date, relevance, and clusters of citation-based groups.
The premium version, available for a fee, offers more content and features. Features include analytics by judge and the “Three Star System”, which has quotes from citing cases in the margins of a case.
