Ohio ACLU’s List of Progressive and Regressive Ohio Legislation – for this year and next
The Ohio ACLU issued a 2011-2012 Ohio General Assembly Legislative Summary of civil rights legislation, plus a look at bill topics going forward. The bills and bill topics are labelled as progressive or regressive. Included on the list for this year are:
- Voting rights legislation (passed & repealed and pending)
- Reproductive rights legislation (pending)
- Criminal justice reform (passed)
- Employment discrimination laws favorable to employers (pending)
The pending issues listed above may be addressed in next year’s General Assembly. A few more of the issues the legislature is expected to address next year include:
- A law similar to Arizona’s anti-immigration legislation
- Public assistance drug testing
- Adding sexual orientation and gender identity to employment and housing anti-discrimination laws
- Death penalty reform
