Foodie Law
While reviewing our new arrivals, I came across a fun new title –The Little Book of Foodie Law by Cecil C. Kuhne III [Find it]. This ingenious little book is organized around important cases covering various legal aspects of food. But don’t expect a treatise-length treatment of jurisprudence– all caselaw discussion is limited to a couple pages, which is immediately followed by a tasty-looking recipe. For example, one chapter discusses Siegel v. Ridgewells, Inc., a case involving the failure to serve Kosher food at a Jewish wedding. The chapter includes a recipe for Matzo Ball Soup. Other chapters cover topics like foie gras, the legal definitions of olive oil and cream cheese, restaurant reviews, and ‘shrooms. A pull-out Foodie Timeline lets you place the dawn of popcorn (c.3600 BCE), ice cream (c.3000 BCE), peanut butter (1884), Twinkies (1930) and the Jell-O Museum (1998). You can check it out from the Atrium level at KF3869 .K84 2012, once this foodie’s done reading it.
