Ohio Bill on DNA Collection in Felony Charges Introduced

Last Thursday, Ohio Senator John Eklund (R, 18^th District) introduced S.B. No. 268 in the Ohio General Assembly. Based on the language of the bill, “If a person…is charged with a felony…[but] has not been arrested…the court shall order the person…to submit to a DNA specimen collection procedure….” [full text of bill] Under current Ohio law, DNA specimens are collected in felony arrests.
