This Just In: The Loving Story

Looking for an interesting documentary for winter break?

The Loving Story [find it] is an HBO documentary film that chronicles the story of Richard and Mildred Loving.  If you’ve taken Con Law already, you’ve likely heard of this case.

In 1958 when the Lovings were married, interracial marriage was illegal in their home state of Virginia.  They were married in Washington D.C., and desired to move back to Virginia.  After their move, they were assaulted and arrested for violating the law against interracial marriage.

In 1967, the United States Supreme Court handed down its famous decision in Loving v. Virginia, declaring the law against interracial marriage unconstitutional.

Even if you don’t think you can handle a legal documentary over break, make sure to check it out next semester!
