New on Casemaker: OSBA Report, More

March 10th, 2011 by sue.altmeyer@law.csuohio.edu and tagged Casemaker, Low cost databases, Ohio State Bar Association

The following features have been added to Casemaker:

  • OSBA Report Online – Includes classifieds and job boards.   Students can upload their resumes online.  New Ohio cases are uploaded every day and organized by date and topic.  Get new cases via RSS feeds which can be filtered topically or by keyword.    It is just like the “Green Book”, but 6 weeks more current.
  • Casecheck Plus, a new shepards-like feature, is now FREE to law students.  If you sign up for the trial, you will have free access until you graduate.  Includes BriefCheck, which allows one to upload a document and all the cites will be run through Casecheck Plus.

  • Improved Ohio Revised Code – Changes to code sections are incorporated right away.   There is an archive of prior ORC versions going back to 2003.
  • Improved Federal library – cases go further back
  • When you run a case search there is an “All Jurisdictions” button to change jurisdictions

An Oldie but a Goodie:

  • Ohio Jury Instructions and OSBA Jury Instructions (the later is only on Casemaker) – Students can use the jury instructions to understand the elements of a cause of action or offense.  The jury instructions site to key cases.

Enhancements to Casemaker coming soon:

  • Ability to search federal and state cases at once
  • Saved search history
  • Casecheck Plus for 22 states

For those unfamiliar with Casemaker, see our prior post.  For access to Casemaker, apply for a free Law School Student Membership
