Bluebook Citations for Twitter, Facebook and Other Social Media Platforms
The latest iteration of The Bluebook – the 20th edition from this year – has some great new information for citing to social media platforms. First off, if you turn to the index at the back, you’ll find an entry for “social media” with references to pages 179, 182, 184. These three pages are in Rule 18 which covers the Internet, electronic media, and other nonprint resources. On these pages you’ll find information on author name, username or handle on the social media platform, title of post, and more. One of the best ways to use The Bluebook is to find relevant examples, and then model your citation after the example. Here are Bluebook examples for Twitter and Facebook. For each of the examples, replace url here with the URL of the post.
