Ohio Bill Would Prohibit Gender Considerations by Health Insurers

Last week in the Ohio General Assembly, Representatives Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) and Nancy Garland (D-New Albany) introduced a bill that would prohibit health insurers from considering gender. H.B. No. 551 reads in part –

“No health insuring corporation shall consider the gender of an applicant, enrollee, or subscriber in determining the premium rate for a policy, contracts, or agreement that provides coverage for basic healthcare services.”
