Rape Crisis Centers Could Benefit from Proposed Ohio Law

Rape crisis centers throughout the state could benefit from a recently proposed law in the Ohio General Assembly. HB488, proposed in late March, would impose an additional court cost of $100 on persons convicted of felony or misdemeanor sexually oriented offenses. Sexually oriented offenses are defined by Ohio Revised Code sec. 2950.01 to include offenses such as rape, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, and pandering obscenity. The imposed additional cost would be deposited into the Rape Crisis Program Trust Fund, out of which rape crisis centers would be funded.
