2/17/2026 CSU|LAW Innocence Project & American Injustice Programs
The Cleveland State University College of Law will present two free public forums in the Moot Court Room on Tuesday February 17, 2026. My Story Ain’t Over: A Conversation with Innocence Project Exoneree Ru-El Sailor will take place 12noon-1pm. Ru-El Sailor is a native Clevelander who spent 15 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted for murder before being exonerated with the help of the Ohio Innocence Project in 2018. A panel consisting of professors from the CSU|LAW Wrongful Conviction Clinic and members of the CSU|LAW Student Bar Association will host Mr. Sailor and facilitate a gripping discussion about his journey, from his wrongful conviction to his exoneration and his work as an activist. American Injustice at Guantanamo Bay: A Conversation with Human Rights Attorney and Author Joshua Colangelo-Bryan will take place 2:30pm-3:30pm. In 2004, attorney Joshua Colangelo-Bryan arrived at Guantanamo Bay to meet Jaber Mohammed, one of six Bahraini detainees his firm had agreed to represent. Far from being threatening, Mohammed welcomed Colangelo-Bryan, even as his ankle was shackled to the floor. Why was Mohammed there? Was he guilty of a crime? A friendship grew over time, as Colangelo-Bryan worked to bring justice to Mohammed. In 2007, after several suicide attempts, Mohammed was freed. Reginald C. Oh, CSU|LAW Alan Miles Ruben & Judge Betty Willis Ruben Endowed Professor of Law, will facilitate a conversation with Colangelo-Bryan, who will discuss his new book Through the Gates of Hell: American Injustice at Guantanamo Bay. The program is co-sponsored by the CSU|LAW Criminal Justice Center and International Law Center. A book signing will immediately follow the program.
