USCA or USCS? New Research Suggests Consulting Both

A recent article from the Law Library Journal sheds some light on the age-old question: USCA or USCS? The article, Comparing The United States Code Annotate and the United States Code Service Using Inferential Statistics: Are Their Annotations Equal? 113 Law Lib. J 207, is available on HeinOnline.

USCA, United States Code Annotated, is on Westlaw and USCS, United States Code Service, is on Lexis. Most students (and lawyers, for that matter) use their preferred brand to access the US Code. Most people assume they are basically the same, but author Emily Marcum concludes that’s not the case. She states that there was “a significant amount of non-overlap between the case annotations” offered by each service.

Therefore, law students may want to check both services since both can be accessed while in school.
