Urban Communication Foundation White Paper Program Grant

photo of man taking photo on a streetThe Urban Communication Foundation invites proposals for a $10,000 grant to fund research, and the development of a white paper, on “an examination of urban communication freedom, regulation, and relevant government intervention and policy.”  This year, the UCF is particularly interested in proposals leading to a white paper on “ways in which government regulation or policy, especially that made at the local city-level, can protect and enhance an open and robust marketplace of ideas that is characterized by democratic values of inclusion, reason, and courage.”  The UCF envisions the final white paper to be 8,000-12,000 words, and present original research on the topic, as well as “aim to have some influence on policy makers, community leaders or researchers within an urban context….”  Proposals are limited to 1,000 words, and due by 11/11/17.  The UCF will make its funding decision by 12/31/17, and the final white paper must be completed by 11/1/18.  For additional information, see the UCF White Paper Proposal page.  The UCF is a not-for-profit (501(c)3) organization that seeks to “promote research that enhances society’s understanding of communication patterns in the urban environment; encourage collaboration between communication scholars, urban planners, and policy makers; support diverse research strategies; and recognize noteworthy scholarship in all related domains.”
