In Honor of the Cavs Championship: The Little Book of Basketball Law

basketballToday is a wonderful day to be in Cleveland!  Strangers are embracing and high fiving–as of the writing of this blog I have given 17 high fives today.  Unfortunately, work productivity in the greater Cleveland area today is about as bad as Steph Curry’s 2nd half in Game 7 of the NBA finals.  Not, however at the law library!  We are still here for your legal research and studying needs!

Cleveland’s basketball success made me think to highlight something basketball related from the law library’s collection:  The Little Book of Basketball Law by Melissa Altman Linsky.  The author teaches a course on Sports Law at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. She has also worked with counsel from the NBA and NHL to ensure compliance with their respective rules, regulations, guidelines and collective bargaining agreements. With the prominence and money in basketball come interesting legal dilemmas. This book explore 13 fascinating cases that have arisen at all levels of the game. Part of the acclaimed Little Book series, this book provides a look at the laws that intersect the game of basketball in an easy-to-relate-to manner that is both entertaining and informative. The “to the Hoop’ section contains updates with current applications of the cases. So, take a fascinating look at the legal side of basketball.
