The Legislative History of the PPACA at Your Fingertips

If your health law research requires you to delve into the background and legislative intent of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, then you need to know about ProQuest Congressional and compiled legislative histories.

ProQuest Congressional [linked from our database page] is hands down the best database to use to answer any legislative history question. It is available on campus, or remotely with authentication. And a compiled legislative history means that someone else has gone to the trouble of gathering and organizing all the documents related to the passage of an important piece of legislation into one place.

With ProQuest Congressional, you can easily access the compiled legislative history of the PPACA, all 906 pages of it. Here’s how –

  • From ProQuest Congressional’s start page, click on Advanced
  • Under “Limit to” select “Legislative Histories 1969 – Present” and deselect all other options
  • In the search box, type the name of the act

From the result page, you can easily navigate to bills versions, debates, reports, hearings (including unpublished hearings), committee prints, and more.

For more information on conducting legislative history research, see our extensive research guide.
