Do You Know Your Legal Topics by Call Number?

Do You Know Your Legal Topics by Call Number?

When you hear the call number KF 6271, do you automatically think of taxes? How about KF 1500? Does the bankruptcy code come to mind? In all likelihood you probably do not have these call numbers and their associated legal topics committed to memory and that’s fine. Still, having a general idea of what call numbers correlate to certain legal topics could help you more effectively and efficiently complete assignments and projects.

In order to make it so that library patrons can more readily find the legal topics they are looking for, the library recently posted a new display on the atrium level bulletin board. The following fifteen legal topics and their call numbers are included in this display: bankruptcy, constitutional law, criminal law, education law, environmental law, evidence, family law, federal practice, intellectual property, labor law, legal writing and research, Ohio law, tax law, torts, and urban planning. Each topic is represented by an illustration made of paper.

The display is intended to primarily act as a reference tool, but it also can double as a matching game for students.  A short set of instructions are included on the board. Go check it out when you get a chance.

For a complete list of legal topics and their call numbers, see Northwestern’s guide on U.S. Law Call Numbers.
