Call for Papers: Private International Law

The Private International Law Group of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) has announced its third annual prize competition. The prize is a $500 stipend to attend the interest group’s inaugural conference on “What Is Private International Law” to be held October 5-6, 2012 at Duke University. Paper topics should address basic and foundational questions of private international law, such as:

  • What is private international law today?
  • Does it promote any policies or values, and if so, what are those?
  • Is it just rules designating the applicable law?
  • Does it include conflict rules for public law?
  • Should it include substantive private law?

See here for a complete description of potential topics. The competition is open to individuals who are 35 years of age or younger as of December 31, 2011. Entries must be submitted no later than May 15, 2012. See the ASIL website for more details.
